BYD Shark
Why this model
What makes the BYD Shark worth importing
Pickup performance without a diesel
321 kW and 650 Nm from a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, reaching 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. It out-accelerates every conventional diesel pickup in its class by a wide margin.
85 km of electric-only running
The 29.58 kWh Blade pack covers a normal working day on electricity alone, then the petrol engine handles long hauls — 670 km combined WLTP. Fleet fuel bills drop without any range compromise.
Dual-motor four-wheel drive
Torque is delivered electrically to both axles rather than through a transfer case, which gives precise low-speed traction control off-road.
3,500 kg towing on Performance
The 2.0T Performance variant tows 3,500 kg, matching the benchmark that pickup buyers in Australia and Latin America check first.

A dash means the manufacturer does not publish that figure for this version — we do not estimate it. Range standards differ: CLTC and NEDC read higher than WLTP for the same car, so compare like with like when quoting against a European rival.

About this model
Where the BYD Shark sits in the market
The Shark is BYD's plug-in hybrid double-cab pickup, sold as the Shark 6 in most markets. It pairs a turbocharged petrol engine with two electric motors in BYD's DMO off-road configuration for 321 kW and 650 Nm — figures no conventional diesel pickup in the class matches — with 85 km of electric-only running from a 29.58 kWh Blade pack and 670 km combined on WLTP.
It is a deliberate attack on the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux, and BYD has launched it officially in Mexico, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Laos, the Philippines, Brunei and Pakistan — including right-hand-drive markets. For fleet buyers the appeal is running cost: a working day on battery power, with the engine available for long distances or heavy towing. The Performance version tows 3,500 kg, which is the number Australian and Latin American buyers check before anything else.
Sold as Shark 6 in most markets. A cab-chassis variant is offered in Australia.
Before you order
What an importer must know about the BYD Shark
Available in both LHD and factory RHD — BYD sells RHD Shark units officially in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Laos, the Philippines, Brunei and Pakistan. The plug-in hybrid drivetrain needs no charging infrastructure to work: it runs as a hybrid when the battery is depleted, which removes the main objection in markets with no public charging. Towing rating differs by variant — 2,500 kg on the 1.5T, 3,500 kg on the 2.0T Performance — so specify the variant carefully when a customer's requirement is towing.
Market fit
Where the BYD Shark sells
Based on documented export presence and how the vehicle suits local conditions — not a guarantee of homologation, which we confirm per market before you order.
Latin America
Mexico and Brazil are official launch markets; pickups are a core segment and fuel cost is a live purchase factor.
Australia and New Zealand
Official RHD markets where the 3,500 kg towing rating and dual-cab format match established buyer expectations.
Southeast Asia
Laos, the Philippines and Brunei already take the model; pickups dominate rural and commercial use.
Africa
South Africa is an official market, and the plug-in drivetrain suits operators facing unstable fuel supply.
