About the Brand
Who is BMW?
BMW builds cars in China through BMW Brilliance Automotive in Shenyang, one of the largest premium car operations in the country. As with Audi, the Chinese range is distinct: the 3 Series, 5 Series, X1, X3 and X5 are all offered in stretched long-wheelbase form for rear-seat comfort, and the i3 electric sedan is a China-only model that shares nothing with the European car of the same name.
BMW sells worldwide and supplies its markets from its own plants in Germany, the United States, Mexico, South Africa and elsewhere. Its Chinese production is directed at Chinese customers. A China-built BMW is therefore a China-market car — equipment, emissions class and connected services are configured for China, and those are the practical details that decide whether it can be registered and serviced where you are.
BMW does not run a general China export programme for third parties — its overseas markets are supplied from its own plants, and China-built cars are made for Chinese customers. Units bought in China and shipped abroad move through China's parallel-export channel. That is legal in the right corridors, but factory warranty, connected services and dealer after-sales in your country will not necessarily apply, and we set that out before you commit.
