About this model

Where the Aion Y / Y Plus sits in the market

The Aion Y is GAC's compact electric SUV and the model the brand exports hardest. It comes as the 4,410 mm Y or the 4,535 mm Y Plus, both on a wheelbase up to 2,775 mm, with LFP and NMC batteries from 37.9 kWh to 76.8 kWh giving 410 to 610 km NEDC from front motors of 70 to 150 kW.

Its commercial strength is fleet credibility plus real export infrastructure. Aion built its volume supplying Chinese ride-hailing and taxi operators, so the cars are engineered for high mileage rather than showroom appeal. GAC assembles the Y in Rayong, Thailand and sells it officially in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Vietnam, with factory right-hand drive available. For an importer that means proven ASEAN homologation and an opening in the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa where GAC has not yet appointed distributors.

Both LHD and factory RHD available — GAC produces right-hand-drive Aion Y for export markets. Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Vietnam are confirmed markets with local assembly at Rayong, so where your destination is in ASEAN check whether GAC's own distributor already covers it. Charging is GB/T on China-market cars. Range figures are quoted on NEDC, which reads considerably higher than WLTP — use the right standard for the market you are quoting into.

Is the Aion Y a good fleet or taxi vehicle? +

It is arguably the best-proven one available. Aion built its production volume supplying Chinese ride-hailing and taxi operators, where vehicles cover 300 km or more every day for years. That real-world duty cycle is far harsher than private ownership, and the cars have held up. For a buyer running taxis, rental or corporate fleets, that track record is more useful evidence than any specification sheet.

What is the difference between the Y and the Y Plus? +

Length, mainly: 4,410 mm for the Y against 4,535 mm for the Y Plus, with a slightly longer wheelbase and more rear space on the Plus. Both share the same battery and motor options. The Plus is the version most export markets receive and the one we would normally quote unless you specifically want the shorter car for tight urban conditions.

Which battery is right for a fleet order? +

The 68.2 kWh LFP at 610 km NEDC. LFP chemistry tolerates daily fast charging and heat far better than NMC over a long service life, which matters enormously when a car is charged twice a day for five years. The 37.9 kWh entry version only suits fixed urban routes with depot charging. Avoid the NMC packs for high-cycle fleet work unless range is the overriding requirement.
