The Passat Pro is SAIC Volkswagen's full-size sedan for China, shown at the 2024 Chengdu Motor Show — 5,006 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,489 mm tall on a 2,871 mm wheelbase, with a 506-litre boot. The 2.0-litre TSI is rated 162 kW (220 PS) and 350 Nm, driving the front wheels through a seven-speed wet-clutch DSG. China gets two trims, the Pioneer Edition and the Starry Sky Edition.

At over five metres it is considerably larger than the European Passat, with the extra length going into rear-passenger space. The wet-clutch DSG matters: it handles heat and load better than the dry-clutch units Volkswagen fits to smaller cars, which makes it more suitable for executive fleet and hot-market use. No — the Chinese Passat Pro is a separate, larger car at 5,006 mm on a 2,871 mm wheelbase, developed for buyers who prioritise rear-seat space. The European Passat is smaller, differently engineered and differently equipped. A customer who knows the European car will find this one noticeably bigger, which is usually welcome but should be set out clearly at the enquiry stage.
Why does the wet-clutch DSG matter? +
Volkswagen uses dry-clutch DSGs in smaller cars and wet-clutch units in larger, higher-torque applications. Wet clutches run in oil, which handles heat and load far better — important in hot markets, heavy traffic and fleet use where dry-clutch units have a poorer reliability record.
