The Model 3 built at Giga Shanghai is the car most Chinese electric vehicles are measured against. The Highland refresh, in Shanghai production since late 2023, is 4,720 mm on a 2,875 mm wheelbase with CATL LFP packs of 64 kWh and LG NMC packs of 78.1 kWh, rated up to 830 km CLTC, in rear-drive and dual-motor form.

It occupies a unique commercial position here. Tesla exports Shanghai-built cars itself to Europe, the Middle East, Australia, Japan and Canada, and builds right-hand drive as standard production. That means the manufacturer is already in most markets you might target, and Tesla actively restricts resale of new vehicles by third parties. Anyone sourcing these needs to understand that constraint before committing — it is not a normal parallel-export situation.

What an importer must know about the Tesla Model 3

Both LHD and factory RHD available. The critical issue is Tesla's own policy: the company restricts resale of new vehicles by third parties, may void warranty on units it identifies as resold, and can disable connectivity or software features on cars outside its supported markets. Tesla also exports from Shanghai itself to Europe, the Middle East, Australia, Japan and Canada, so in those markets you compete with the manufacturer directly. Charging is GB/T on China-market cars; Supercharger access outside supported markets is not guaranteed. We will not misrepresent any of this to a customer.

Can I legally resell a new Tesla in my market? +

This needs care. Tesla restricts third-party resale of new vehicles, can decline warranty on units it identifies as resold, and controls software and connectivity remotely. That is different from every other manufacturer on this site. We can source Shanghai-built cars, but we will tell you plainly what Tesla's policy means for warranty, over-the-air updates and Supercharger access rather than letting a customer discover it later.

Which markets does Tesla already serve from Shanghai? +

Europe, the Middle East, Australia, Japan and Canada receive Shanghai-built cars directly from Tesla. In those markets you would be competing with the manufacturer's own pricing and service network, which is rarely viable. Independent sourcing makes commercial sense where Tesla has no presence — much of Central Asia, Africa and parts of Southeast Asia — and that is where we would focus.

Will Supercharging work on an imported car? +

Not necessarily. Tesla controls Supercharger access through the vehicle account and enables it by market. A Shanghai-built car taken to a country Tesla does not serve may have no Supercharger access at all, and third-party charging depends on the connector — China cars use GB/T, not CCS2. This is a genuine practical limitation the end customer must understand before buying.

Warranty policy depends on brand, model and destination country, and some manufacturer warranties are limited or void outside China.
