About the Brand
Who is Tesla?
Tesla is the only foreign automaker with a wholly owned car plant in China rather than a joint venture. Giga Shanghai builds the Model 3 and Model Y, including the long-wheelbase Model Y L, and is Tesla's main export hub for Europe and Asia-Pacific. Tesla also sells direct to customers with no dealer network, which is precisely what makes third-party sourcing complicated.
Tesla exports large volumes from Shanghai to Europe, Australia, Southeast Asia and other regions — but entirely through its own direct-sales operation. There is no dealer or distributor tier to buy from. Tesla's Chinese purchase terms have also included resale and export restrictions on new vehicles, which is a contractual matter, not just a logistics one. We will not pretend that away, and you should be sceptical of anyone who does.
