About the Brand
Who is Kia?
Kia builds in China through its Yancheng joint venture in Jiangsu. Unlike most foreign joint ventures, Kia has deliberately converted that plant into an export base as well as a domestic one — the EV5 electric SUV sold in Australia and several other markets is built there. The Chinese domestic range covers the K3 and K5 sedans, the Sportage and the EV5.
Kia genuinely exports China-built vehicles to a wide list of countries, but it does so through Kia's own distribution network — dealers appointed by Kia, with Kia warranty behind them. That is a real programme and worth knowing about, but it is not a channel a third-party trader can buy into. Domestic-market cars bought in China and shipped out follow the parallel-export route instead, and the two should not be confused.
